To start with, the installation was not that complicated (Windows 7) & the scanner fired up perfectly & did several scan jobs for me without a hitch.

I have been using scanners dating back to the days of SCSI ports. In fact, my first scanner was a motorized hand scanner that also included the ability to travel on a board with a track. I have used all sorts of brands of flatbeds ever since, so I am in a lovely position to give a non-professional assessment of the scanner. However, as a reader of lots of, lots of reviews myself, I'll keep it brief.

WHY DID I BUY IT? They already had scanning capability in our All-In-One Canon MP series printer/scanner/copier. Truthfully, scanning pics is not all that great with the Canon, which is more focused on document scanning. Last week my spouse mentioned that they ought to digitally scan the several decades of pics they have. In addition to that project, it came up that they would like to scan pics at her sisters. Of coursework, I would would like to scan my 87 year elderly Dad's pics as well. Both of them live in excess of 100 miles away, much negating the use of the large & slow Canon. Thus began my search for a first rate quality flatbed scanner that I could travel with & use with my laptop computer.

I spent considerable time researching on the net & came close to purchasing an Epson V-600 (about as close as you can get to the venerable V-700, without the excessive cost). However, the more I check it out the more I noticed that I would not be requiring any of the more advanced, high resolution scanning it offered. That is what led me to the Epson Perfection V-33. The cost was lovely & I was positive that it would fill the bill for scanning & restoring elderly images & news clippings.

If you are looking for a smaller profile, flatbed scanner that can scan & restore your home images, this is the machine. Epson's included program is not excessively sophisticated, but excellent at handling the job. Would I recommend the V-33? Most definitely!!!

Epson Perfection V750-M Pro Color Scanner

Epson Perfection V750-M Pro Color Scanner
The occasional scanner for artwork and simple copy doesn't require this sort of investment, so do yourself a favor, save some funds and look elsewhere. In the event you plan on selling retouched and restored work then the V750-M may be what you have been looking for. Yes it is expensive, but with the quality and speed I have been enjoying over the last few months, I can honeslty say that my personal investment has been worth it. I have owned several scanners historically and was nervous about making this sort of purchase. Although I have had excellent results with the $300.00 and under breeds, the V750-M produces quality beyond anything I could have hoped for. Anything better would cost me thousands of dollars I basically don't have. If there is any way you can possibly audition this scanner without a purchase then do so. It is still a serious "chunk of change" purchase, but after calibration using Silverfast and several prints later, I was one time well aware of what I was one time getting in to and found the investment worthwhile and sound. There is no comparison with my earlier scanners. The V750-M is serious about what it does and does it well.

Epson WorkForce 840 Color Ink Jet Wireless All-in-One with Fax (C11CA97201)

Epson WorkForce 840 Color Ink Jet Wireless All-in-One with Fax (C11CA97201)
     by Diaz A(Mexico)
It is hard to give this printer a bad review because the functionality is wonderful. I absolutely loves the "no hands" sided printing. The dual trays are awesome for a little office. They leave loaded with printer paper, and the other loaded with business sized envelopes. It saves lots of "steps." However, the print quality is definitely less than stellar. I have tried aligning the print heads along with various other "tricks." Text always seems to misalign somewhere on the page. It is MUCH WORSE on high speed. It improves when you turn the high speed off. This was the first time I have bought a printer outside of the HP brand for lots of years. I can not say ENOUGH about the functionality, but I am disappointed with the text print quality.

Epson Perfection V500 Photo Scanner

Epson Perfection V500 Photo Scanner
        by Andre S
This is an brilliant scanner. It adapts its light for the best color rendition on  any surface. In my experiments it handled matt, shiny, & highly reflective surfaces without any issues.

The color quality & speed of this scanner is brilliant. The actual scan speed is about double that of Epson's earlier Perfection scanners.

The issue I have had is installing the drivers on my0 inch intel Mac. I have been unable as yet to get the front panel buttons to work. I am sure that Epson will come out with the new install application soon.

I have been using scanners now for0 years, the color rendition of this scanner matches a quantity of the best I have ever seen.

Fujitsu fi-6130 Duplex Scanner (PA03540-B055)

Fujitsu fi-6130 Duplex Scanner (PA03540-B055)
          by Arial S
This has been a frustrating experience. I have owned the Fujitsu Scansnap S510 for years and have been pleased with it except for the constant misfeeds. I found I could get an appropriate function on the S510 if I monitored it and refed the missed sheets. I bought the Fujitsu fi-6130 because I needed a more reliable and more industrial strength model for the giant volume of elderly and new files I needed to archive. This scanner is definitely faster than a new S1500M which I also bought.
Now the issue is the setup. It comes with a jumbo of disjointed and overlapping application without any actual guidance on what to do. The included ScanALL application is not at all like the elegant and now more appreciated proprietary fujitsu Scansnap Manager which works only on the Scansnap line of fujitsu scanners. The first batch I fed it with one legal size page and 6 letter size copies kept jamming on the legal page. It was not automatically recognized as a mixed size batch. I called tech support and they told me to tweak the settings to legal sz with finish of page sensor on. Same issue with color and B&W copies in same batch. You require to choose to do B&W and lose the color on the letterhead or scan the whole batch as color, needlessly ballooning your file size. I gave up and scan in B&W. The Scansnap did the mixed copy sizes and the mixed color/B&W and paused to let you name and store the file where you wanted it. The fi-6130 under Adobe Acrobat scans in every doc as untitled1 and I must rename it before saving it. It is either that or lose control of the way you name the file.
Fujitsu tech support tells me all the former Scansnap users are disappointed with the application on the twain compliant scanners like the fi-6130. is not the same thing. To sum it up, the redemptive qualities of this scanner are faster speed and more reliable paper handling. Otherwise I like the Scansnap line better in the look and feel and operation.

Fujitsu ScanSnap S1500 Deluxe Bundle Sheet-Fed Scanner

Fujitsu ScanSnap S1500 Deluxe Bundle Sheet-Fed Scanner
While the OCR conversion feature provided by the included Adobe application is not flawless it works well for searches of 100 and page reports saving me hours of flipping through pages of tabulated knowledge. The "CardMinder" application is of the best added application bundles to come along in a long time. I have scanned hundreds of business cards in to files which are basically edited, archived as well as uploaded to Outlook Contacts.

This S1500 with Deluxe Bundle was an upgrade from the S500 which I put through an issue free rigorous 4+ year workout. I bought this model because of a Windows 7, 64 bit laptop computer upgrade and I thought now was the time to put the S500 out to pasture (besides Fujitsu did not produce a workable patch for the S500). I am an international aviation consultant who scans boxes of aircraft documents for analysis and archive so portability, ease of use and reliability are foremost. I have made colleagues using other scanners envious of the speed and quality of both the S1500 and the S500 before which reassures my choice of this product.

For somebody requiring quality, speedy, reliable and transportable scanning capabilities I would highly recommend the S1500.

Fujitsu ScanSnap S1500 Instant PDF Sheet-Fed Scanner for PC

Fujitsu ScanSnap S1500 Instant PDF Sheet-Fed Scanner for PC
       by Detock A

The scanner program includes Adobe Acrobat 9.0 Standard (license for computers). It also ships with Scansnap Manager & Organizer that are excellent options for organized filing. In case you are strictly a Mac user then purchase S1500M which, at the date of this writing, ships with Adobe 8 Professional.

This product is an upgrade from the ScanSnap S510 & now works with either Macs or PC's without any additional program needed. Better yet, it is also compatible with Windows 32-bit or 64-bit operating systems. If you are unfamiliar with the differences know that this is an excellent thing!

Most importantly, the scanning ability is effortless. Watch a video from Fujitsu for more details. I absolutely recommend this product!

Canon CanoScan LiDE110 Color Image Scanner (4507B002)

Canon CanoScan LiDE110 Color Image Scanner (4507B002)
    by Semi
I recently bought the Canon CanoScan LiDE 110 as a replacement for an older LiDE 30. This LiDE's most important features is that it is compatible with all versions of Microsoft Windows, including Windows 7 64-bit (the older version is not compatible with 64-bit versions of windows) & the fact that it is powered through the USB seven.0 cable, meaning no power supply to over around or finding a place to plug in, a and for use with a laptop computer.

After following the directions for installation, installing the drivers before plugging the scanner in to the computer, everything went flawlessly, & the first time the scanner was plugged in, after rebooting, the hardware was found & driver installed.

While this can be used as a stand alone flatbed copier, it can also scan to PDF files right from a button on the front of the scanner, meaning you won't need to have a full featured PDF creation program to generate PDF files. A button may even be configured to send a scan directly to your e-mail program, although I haven't tried this feature.

In the event you use this scanner in a photograph editing program, such as Paintshop Pro Photograph, or Photoshop, after the driver application lots, I would recommend clicking on the advanced button, as it gives you much more control over the details of the scan, which is important when scanning pics. In the event you haven't used a scanner before, then let me recommend that you pick 600 dpi as your default scanning resolution, in lieu of the 300 dpi choice you'll see the first time you use it. Even be aware that jpg files at 600 dpi can be huge when in color, so in the event you are scanning a black & white photograph or document, you are better off selecting Grey Scale in lieu of Color. In the advanced mode, changes like DPI & color will show up the next time you use the application. In the event you use the basic mode, & make changes, this is not the case. That is why I always recommend using this in the advanced mode.

If you are looking for a scanner to scan 50 page documents, this is not the scanner to buy. You need with an automatic sheet feeder, or an All-In-One with a sheet feeder. This flat bed scanner is best used for scanning pics & books.

Epson Perfection V300 Photo Color Scanner (Black)

Epson Perfection V300 Photo Color Scanner (Black)
       by Fidding  F
They decided on the Epson scanner because they still have an Epson laser printer that dates back to the days of Windows three.1 and it still works perfectly.

My spouse and I decided to generate a set of relatives picture albums as Christmas gifts this year. They acquired numerous elderly images from my relatives in Germany while on holiday there. The albums were to be produced electronically. This led to a search for a scanner. Although there's lots of of these on the market, they limited our search to a basic unit suitable to our needs.

They have not been disappointed with the Epson Perfection V300 that they bought through Amazon.com. It performs well and flawlessly enacts every facet of its capabilities such as scanning slides or large documents in addition to images of coursework.

They recommend this scanner to somebody who merely wishes to scan home images. Obviously, the far more pricey scanners targeted toward the professional market would outclass the V300 but then they would be comparing apples to oranges.
